Press release after today’s demo

The Grim Reaper, a priest, pall-bearers carrying a coffin and more than a hundred mourners took part in a mass demonstration through Enfield Town at lunchtime today.

The priest (Father of the Chapel, Jonathan Lovett) read out the last rites over the coffin in a ceremony symbolising the near-death of their group of local newspapers.

Journalists on strike at the North London & Herts branch of Tindle Newspapers are taking two weeks’ action over a lack of staff and resources, leaving them unable to provide quality newspapers.

On the eve of their action the Enfield Nine were issued letters warning that redundancies could be made in the near future but this has only galvanised them in fighting for the future of their papers.

We hope you can join us in our fight for survival!

Best wishes,

The staff of North London & Herts Newspapers
