A few words from Barry Fitzpatrick

NUJ members at Tindle North London & Herts Newspapers Group are taking strike action to defend the quality of journalism on their titles and deserve full credit for placing themselves on the front line of the struggle over the future of our industry. The whole union supports their fight and the very modest demands that they have made to replace some of the staff that have left.

The quality of local news content is vital to the survival of the Regional Press. Hacking out jobs in this crude fashion by Tindle does nothing to reassure the residents of Enfield that the provision of their local news is in safe hands.

Already the campaign is supported by large sections of the local community and politicians of all persuasions.

The strike is totally avoidable if the management are willing to make an honourable settlement and work together with the union for the survival of the papers.
